The Rio Xingu, Volta Grande, Rio Iriri, Altamira…..

Exotic, tantalizing names that we are all familiar with because many ornamental fish come from this rich bio-diverse slice of Brazil. Yet these places remain so foreign to us.

What is it really like there? Is the color of the fish more brilliant when you see them moments after emerging from their native waters? How are they caught and who are the people who collect them? What is their natural habitat really like and what dangers is this environment facing in our ever-evolving world? Does the river water feel warm on your skin? How many colors of the rainbow can be seen in a sunset over the Rio Xingu?

Most hobbyists will never know the answers to these questions….

Which is why we are bringing YOU to Brazil for our 2023 Freshwater Exotics Ornamental Fish Expedition. You will see and experience all of this for yourself.

Learn about the ornamental fish trade and the environment where your fish come from. Witness how fish are collected in this region of the Amazon. Snorkel among the submerged boulders and rapids. Listen to the voices of howler monkeys echoing through the hills in the distance. Sleep in a hammock under a dome of stars unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Watch the sunrise and sunset over the waters of the mighty Xingu.

You will have a chance to see many famous L# plecos and other fish including L46, L82, L174, L25, L14, L177, L18, L354, corydoras, Retroculus xinguensis and many, many more.

*all fish will be released back to the river at the site they are found, no exceptions, whatsoever

This region of the Amazon faces real environmental destruction due to the Belo Monte Dam and illegal smuggling of the endangered L46 Zebra pleco. We feel these controversial topics are an important part of any serious hobbyists’ education.

These expeditions are the most unique and immersive experiences an ornamental fish enthusiast could possibly experience. The 2023 Expedition will take place in September or October, mark your calendars!
